The Church of Grundtvig · Copenhagen, Denmark
Grundtvig’s Church is one of the most distinctive works of Danish expressionist architecture. Designed by architect Peder Vilhelm Jensen-Klint, the church was built between 1921 and 1940 and stands in the Bispebjerg district of Copenhagen.
The monumental structure is constructed from millions of yellow bricks and combines elements of traditional Danish village churches with the vertical proportions of Gothic cathedrals. The dramatic west façade resembles the pipes of a church organ and has become one of Copenhagen’s most recognisable architectural landmarks.
The interior continues the same architectural language with tall columns, vaulted ceilings and carefully controlled daylight, creating a calm and contemplative space defined by Nordic simplicity and material precision.
