Dansehallerne · Copenhagen, Denmark

Dansehallerne is a national center for dance and choreography. Our focus lies in presenting and co-producing Danish and international productions for all ages. We are a gathering point for passionate dance audiences and professionals. From our center, we communicate professional knowledge of the art of dance, and we drive discussions about all aspects of the art of dance, at an intermediate level and in-depth.

The Kedelhuset was originally designed by architect Carl Harild and built in the period 1925-1928 and is considered one of the strongest examples of functional industrial architecture of our time. The building was built to produce hot water for beer brewing and for energy supply. The building, which is now listed, consisted primarily of the large Kedelhal on the first floor, where the enormous boilers were originally located, and a ground floor, where water and slag from the coal-fired plants were tapped.

Mikkelsen Arkitekter has been responsible for the transformation of the Kedelhuset into Dansehallerne's new national center for contemporary dance and choreography.
