The sculpture "Large Red Sphere" by the American artist Walter De Maria (1935 to 2013), created in 2002, was acquired by the Udo and Anette Brandhorst Foundation in 2006. On 23 October 2010, the installation of the sculpture in the Türkentor, which was renovated and redesigned by sauerbruch hutton architects, was presented to the public. What now appears as a total work of art, as it were, represents a milestone in the development of the Kunstareal.
